Gwent Police is investigating three reports of intranet fraud in recent weeks relating to vehicles that have been advertised for sale online.
The first incident relates to a person responding to an advertisement online for a mobile home.
The seller promised to deliver the mobile home following receipt of a bankers draft for £6300.
The money was transferred but the mobile home was never delivered.
The second incident relates to person responding to an advertisement online for a Audi A4 TDI.
The seller promised to deliver the vehicle following receipt of the £7000 asking price.
The money was transferred and the vehicle was never delivered.
The third incident relates to a person responding to an advertisement online for a VW Golf GTI.
The seller promised to deliver the vehicle following receipt of the £3500 asking price.
The money was transferred and the vehicle was never delivered.
In each of these cases the seller asked for the money to be transferred to bank accounts abroad, in Spain or Italy.
Police officers are raising awareness of these kind of incidents and warning people to be extremely vigilant when carrying out transactions online.
Always check that the person you are buying from is genuine and where possible, if you are parting with a significant amount of money, always make an effort to see the goods beforehand.
