Montgomeryshire MP Welcomes ‘Common Sense’ from Council Over Transfer of Responsibility for Llanfyllin Public Toilets

Glyn Davies MPGlyn Davies, Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire, has welcomed news that Powys County Council has agreed to fix longstanding drainage issues at Llanfyllin public toilets, before management of the facilities is transferred to Llanfyllin Town Council.

Powys County Council is to close all public toilets across the county as part of its budget cuts. Llanfyllin Town Council had confirmed it would take over the toilets management, but was initially expected to do so before longstanding problems with the toilets’ drainage had been dealt. This would have posed a significant cost to the Town Council’s budget.

Glyn recently met with Llanfyllin Mayor Ann Williams and Cllr Peter Lewis to discuss the situation, and appealed to Powys Council to offer a fairer solution to the problem. Powys County Council has this week confirmed that Llanfyllin Town Council will be undertaking drain repairs with financial help for most of the cost from Powys.

Commenting on the news, Glyn Davies MP said:

“I’m very pleased that Powys Council have now agreed to fund the repair of the drains at Llanfyllin’s public toilets before transferring their responsibility over to Llanfyllin Town Council.

“Whilst I understand the financial pressures which Powys Council are facing, it did seem very unfair that the Town Council were being expected to take over the running of the town’s public toilets before longstanding serious faults had been rectified.

“It is good to see that common sense has now prevailed. Public toilets are vital to a significant town such as Llanfyllin and I applaud the Town Council for preventing their closure.”
