Road closures in Neath Port Talbot

Icy weather conditions continue to affect roads across Neath Port Talbot.

The council’s gritting team has continued to grit across Neath Port Talbot on all designated routes through the Christmas and New Year period. All main routes are now clear and passable. Additional gritting and hand gritting has continued over the weekend.

There is currently adequate stock of salt and this will allow us to continue to grit the main routes throughout the county borough as necessary.

Gritting outside schools is taking place throughout today and tomorrow and grit bins are currently being replenished.

Road surface temperatures are now below zero and will continue to fall further overnight.
Refuse collection will recommence tomorrow first thing, there is still a backlog which the crews will endeavour to collect tomorrow depending on road conditions.

Hand gritting is continuing to concentrate on shopping centre areas, schools ready for return tomorrow, refilling of existing grit bins and the other area’s we did not reach over the weekend period. This will resume again tomorrow morning at 07.30am, again focusing on untreated roads/pavements.

Due to severity of the weather the council has ordered further supplies of salt.

CWMAVON ROAD
Motorists need to be aware that Cwmavon Road will be closed tonight between 19.00hrs and 4.00am tomorrow and again tomorrow night between 19.00hrs and midnight.  This will be to allow additional concrete barriers to be put in place; work will also be carried out to dislodge any loose material.  Diversions will be put in place.

Cwmafan Road was closed due to a landslide 50 Meters from the previous slide last year.
The road was closed from New Years Eve until 2.00pm yesterday when a concrete barrier had been put into place; the road is currently open on one lane with traffic management in place.

The road will continue to operate on a single lane with traffic management for the time being.
