Glyn Davies, Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire, joined around 100 local people in Montgomery last Sunday (24th November), answering Mayor Mike Mills’ call for Montgomery Fire Station to be retained.
Montgomery Fire Station has been threatened with closure by Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, as part of planned measures to reduce costs. Cllr Mike Mills has organised a petition calling for the removal of the station’s closure as an option. The petition is being supported by Glyn Davies MP and Montgomeryshire AM Russell George.
Speaking about the petition, Glyn Davies MP said:
“Montgomery Mayor Mike Mills has done a great job inspiring the town to come together to save its fire station – and Cllr Stephen Hayes has used the Internet as a great campaigning tool. Well done both, but I was really impressed by two local youngsters who prepared such lovely posters to support the campaign.
“The whole town has come together to make its voice heard and I give them my full support. It’s not good enough that whenever an organisation wants to reduce spending, the first target is the front line.”
