The Norwegian Church Arts Centre has a long tradition of celebrating Christmas and this Sunday the annual tree lighting ceremony will take place.
Celebrating the church’s links with Norway, the event will include festive music and traditional songs from both Wales and Norway from 4pm, followed by Christmas carols and the tree lighting from 5.15pm.
The Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Derrick Morgan, who will host the event, said: “This event is an opportunity to celebrate the long-standing cultural friendship between Cardiff and its twin in Norway – Hordaland County.
“It marks our great relationship whilst providing a magical Christmas evening,”
Representatives from Norway, including Mr Tom-Christer Nilsen, County Mayor of Hordaland, will gather at the Christmas tree alongside members of the Welsh-Norwegian community who have a long-standing connection with the Norwegian Church. They will be joined by students from Hordaland who are currently in Cardiff on an exchange trip, and two Hordaland musicians who will be playing Hardanger fiddles.
Members of the public are invited to gather outside the terrace overlooking the Bay and enjoy a mince pie and mulled wine with carols.
Cabinet Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture said: Cllr Ramesh Patel, said: “This event really sums up this special time of year when we focus on our relationships. With this event focusing on the great friendship Cardiff has with Hordaland.
“I would encourage everyone to wrap up warm and enjoy this superb festive night out.”
Visitors can also pop in the church from 12noon on 1 December to enjoy the Christmas market, which will have an array of traditional stocking fillers and Christmas gifts, offering the ideal opportunity to find the perfect festive gift.
