Careers Wales North West have been awarded a £1000 Learning Promotion Grant by Adult Education Organisation NIACE. The money will be used to fund a ‘Get Healthy, Wealthy and Wise in 2010’ Learning and Opportunities event in the town on Thursday 14th January between 11am – 6.30pm at Holyhead Town Hall.
Event organiser Andy Pritchard commented, “We are thrilled to receive this money. It will mean that in the grey aftermath of Christmas and the New Year we can offer a day with a difference, hopefully helping people to get on track and make a positive start to 2010.”
“We recognise that local business closures have meant a lot of local people being made redundant in 2009. We want to give people the chance to have a chat with us and talk through their future options. As well as offering various tasters for current and possible new courses in north west Wales, we will be offering people an opportunity to find out more about healthy eating, and a chance to sort out their financial health. All under one roof.”
As well as Careers Wales staff, there will be a variety of organisations at the Town Hall. In the ‘health’ category are Smoking Cessation, and Walk Your Way to Health. Representing ‘wealth’ will be Citizens Advice Bureau (Anglesey), helping people with their finances and other advice needs. Finally, local education providers Coleg Menai, Coleg Harlech/WEA, and the Basic Skills council will be able to tell you more about current courses on offer.
Further skills will be demonstrated by the stands showcasing flower arranging, computer skills, jewellery making and aromatherapy.
Healthy eating will be promoted as part of the cookery demonstrations.
Entry to the event will be free and children’s activities will be available throughout the day to enable parents to browse and get advice in peace. Free refreshments and food will also be available to all attending.
