Adverse weather: Increase in calls

North Wales Police have seen a big increase in the number of calls being made due to the adverse weather conditions.

On Tuesday, 5th January the Force’s Operational Communications Division in St Asaph took 3,263 calls – the highest figure police have had over the last few years.

This compares to over 1,400 calls the previous day (Monday, 4th January). “It has been an exceptionally busy period for us,” said Chief Inspector Jane Banham.

“Many of the calls, to both the 999 and non-emergency lines, were regarding snow or ice covered roads, minor collisions and abandoned vehicles.

She added: “Thankfully we had no serious incidents; however we are still urging people to take care on the roads.”

Motorists are still being advised to be alert and to drive according to the road conditions during the cold snap.

Ensure that you allow extra time for your journey, slow down on icy or snowy roads and remember to leave a greater distance between you and the vehicle in front.

For further details on road conditions, contact the Traffic Wales hotline on 0845 602 6020.

As the cold snap continues, please remember that the 999 line is for emergencies only and non-emergency calls should be made to 101.
