How does ‘living in harmony with our planet’ look to you?
Today (6 August), WWF Cymru is at the National Eisteddfod in Llanelli to launch a new photography project.
Following the success of ‘Welsh Wish – Dymuniad Cymru’ as part of Earth Hour, the aim of the next part of the campaign is to show what a brighter future looks like.
By posting images online, organisers hope the pictures will remind politicians about the importance of a sustainable future for Wales, as the Welsh Government introduces the Wellbeing of Future Generations Bill.
Taking part in Welsh Wish is easy:
1. Take a picture of what you like about nature and living in harmony with the planet
2. Make a wish – say why this is important to you and tag it #welshwish
3. Share it – post your picture on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram
S4C presenters Iolo Williams and Mari Lovgreen have already sent photos of what living in harmony with the planet means to them.
Iolo’s shared a picture of his son with a slow worm on Skomer island. He said:
“My Welsh Wish is for children to have opportunities to come into contact with nature through school, the community or the family. That was my own experience and these connections then continue in the rest of their lives.”
Mari’s shared a picture of herself on her bike at Coed y Brenin near Dolgellau. She explained her wish:
“My Welsh Wish is for people to enjoy the beauty of Wales. I feel so lucky to live in a country as special as Wales and it’s important to keep it that Wales for the next generation.”
Ruth Bates, WWF Cymru’s Communications Manager added:
“The theme of the second part of the Welsh Wish campaign is ‘a bright future in a snap shot’. We’d like to see photos that convey the idea of living in harmony with our planet.”
“The summer is a great time to take pictures and we’re looking forward to seeing lots of creative, inspiring and emotional images. Perhaps you’d like to share a picture of cycling to work instead of driving, a selfie with the tomatoes you’ve grown or a photo of friends enjoying a dip in the sea.”
“So, if you enjoy taking photos over the summer, have a go at our creative challenge and show your support for a better future for our planet at the same time.”
