A busy Friday morning for New Quay lifeboat

The inshore lifeboat volunteer crew at the New Quay RNLI had a busy time dealing with two emergency calls on Friday morning, 19 August.

At 10.54am there was a call to attend the suspected sighting of an upturned boat off Coybal beach, some one and a half miles from the station. Thankfully, this turned out to be a kayak low in the water but safely under control.

As the lifeboat returned to the station, there was a call to assist a fishing boat with a fouled propeller some two miles off Aberaeron. The snagged equipment was freed and the fishing boat escorted back to New Quay harbour.

Ben Billingham, Station Mechanic said, ‘We get a number of fouled propellers to deal with each year. Ours is a very busy small boat harbour and bay and there are lots of discarded lines under the surface of the water.’
