Independent living skill students who successfully completed courses in Newport received their certificates at a special ceremony in Brynglas House.
Two groups also entertained guests with dancing and a fun performance of The Brynglas Rap.
Students were presented with OCN College certificates for a range of subjects including
cookery, art, history, office skills, English and maths.
Newport City Council works a range of different agencies such as Brynglas ATC, Vision 21, social services and Maes Ebbw School.
Classes are generally small so that tutors can work with students on a more personalised level.
As well as using Brynglas House, classes are also held at community-based venues such as Central Library, St Julians community learning centre, Belle Vue Park and Bettws allotments.
The council works with a job skills club, equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to help them progress to either voluntary or paid employment.
As part of a community studies course, students have undertaken a range of charity events raising money for children’s charity Mary’s Meals.
Classes are open to all adults aged over 16 with a learning disability and normally start in September and finish in July. Enrolment week is held in September but students can join classes throughout the year.
