As part of the libraries fortnight celebrations which was recently held, a day full of fun for local school pupils was held by Gwynedd Council’s Library Service at Caernarfon Library.
Ten pupils from Ysgol yr Hendre, Caernarfon had the chance to produce their very own comic strip from start to finish in the company of the author Alun Ceri Jones, and cartoonist Mal Humphreys.
The theme linking all the events was the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad programme – which is a series of events that will be held to showcase Wales and the rest of the UK’s arts and culture to the rest of the world. The aim is to inspire creativity across all forms of culture, especially among young people. The pupils were also inspired by to create their own cartoon.
Gwawr Eilian, Community Librarian and Libraries Promoter who works for Cyngor Gwynedd said:
“The enthusiasm of the children was infectious and the worked very hard all day. Being in the company of the author Alun Ceri Jones and the cartoonist Mal Humphreys was a very valuable experience for them, and hopefully the experience will provide them with inspiration for the future.”
Huw Lewis, Minister for Heritage noted:
“Libraries Fortnight is a great opportunity for the whole family to enjoy the benefits of their local library. Not only do local libraries offer a diverse range of events all year round they also offer the latest bestsellers, free internet access and DVDs.
“The library is a great starting point if you are doing research of any kind whether it be for your studies or looking into your family tree.”
