March is an exciting month at Blackwood Miners’ Institute with two of Wales’ National performing arts companies presenting their work.
National Theatre Wales present their first ever performances at Blackwood Miners’ Institute on Thursday 11th & Friday 12th March at 7.30pm. What’s the most extraordinary Valleys story of all? After listening to hundreds, playwright Alan Harris has transformed the best into a beautiful, outrageous night of theatre. Directed by John McGrath.
The cast of six actors, all originally from the Valleys, include Sharon Morgan, winner of last year’s BAFTA Cymru Best Actress Award for her role in Martha Jac a Sianco, who appeared in BBC Wales’ Torchwood and Belonging. Boyd Clack, star of BBC Wales’ High Hopes and Satellite City, as well as Twin Town, will also appear alongside Siwan Morris, star of Channel 4’s Skins and who last year performed in Sherman Cymru’s acclaimed Cloakroom. She has also appeared on television in Con Passionate and Caerdydd.
Three young actors from BBC Wales’ Belonging will also appear; Oliver Wood who played Asbo, Huw Rhys who played Carl, and Amy Starling who played Nurse Spencer. Huw also appeared in Caerdydd.
National Dance Company Wales, formally Diversions, also visit Blackwood Miners’ Institute on Friday 19th March with two wonderful productions performed by six of the best young professional dancers in the world. The company’s visit to Blackwood Miners’ also offers young people and adults the chance to take part in dance workshops on Thursday 18th March.
