Cardiff University’s new state-of the-art education centre offering Wales’ future doctors, nurses, midwifes, physiotherapists, radiologists and other healthcare professionals some of the latest teaching and learning facilities will be officially opened this week (Friday 18th November).
Named after one of Wales’ leading medical pioneers Professor Archie Cochrane, the Cochrane Building includes a twin storey inter-professional library, modern clinical skills and high-tech simulation laboratories, postgraduate teaching areas, seminar space, wireless access to online services and student support services.
Professor Iain Chalmers, whose distinguished career was inspired by Professor Archie Cochrane’s work, will join Cardiff University’s Vice-Chancellor Dr David Grant, students, staff, and representatives from across the medical community in Wales to officially mark the opening.
Professor Archie Cochrane’s pioneering work in the former Rhondda mining communities helped relieve the pain and suffering of miners suffering lung disease and changed the way modern medicine examines and treats disease.
As well as a formal plaque unveiling ceremony, there will be an opportunity to tour the new facilities.
