Cowbridge Library will be closed for a short time over the Christmas period as refurbishment works to provide new and improved facilities reach final stages.
From Monday 13 December, the library will be closing to allow for the final stage of building works, interior fitting-out and re-stocking of the shelves, before reopening on Monday 17 January 2011.
There has been a significant increase in the use of the library over recent years and, although facilities had been improved, the library was looking a bit tired. As more services were provided, it was apparent that the layout had also become outdated.
The new-look library will provide a more comfortable and attractive environment and will separate some key areas in order to better meet different needs and expectations.
Improvements are based on feedback from library customers over recent years and include complete redecoration, a new IT suite, a coffee area and a separate children’s area.
There will be some self-service equipment for customers, enabling library staff to devote more time to helping people with their use of the library, handling enquiries, and running more activities for both children and adults.
Sian Jones, chief librarian, said: “While every effort has been made to maintain services during the building works, there has inevitably been some discomfort for customers and staff as a result of noise and dust. We appreciate the support and patience shown by our customers during this period.”
Details of the opening event will be advertised after Christmas.
Please note that all other libraries in the Vale will be open as normal during this period and customers may use the services at any of them including borrowing and returning items.
