A Welsh Christmas in Countries Across Europe

Pupils from six schools across North Wales will be spreading the Christmas cheer across the continent as part of a European Christmas Tree Decoration Exchange.

The activity is arranged by Europe Direct Llangollen and will involve Ysgol Heulfre (Denbigh), Ysgol Pen Barras (Ruthin), Ysgol Cefn Meiriadog in Denbighshire; Ewloe Green and Venerable Edward Morgan RC School from Flintshire and Acton Park Primary School in Wrexham.

Pupils from each participating school across Europe make Christmas tree decorations, symbolic of their region, from various materials, and create an information pack on how Christmas in their region is celebrated.

The purpose of this exchange is to promote intercultural dialogue and understanding between schools in the EU through learning about how Christmas is celebrated in other EU countries, and to encourage collaboration between these schools in the future.

Children will discover the similarities and differences about how Christmas is celebrated in each EU country and hopefully learn about the culture, language and the people at the same time.

The decorations that each school receives will be used to decorate the school Christmas tree and the information packs will be used to put together a display in each school to learn about Christmas across Europe.

There are 21 EU member states, including 135 schools participating in this initiative: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and the UK (including schools from Cornwall, England, Scotland, and Wales).
