A469 Update

CaerphillyThe A469 between Pontlottyn and New Tredegar remains closed as essential repair work by Welsh Water and Caerphilly County Borough Council continues.

Good progress has been made and CCBC has three teams on site working extended hours and over the weekends to do as much as possible.

The weather has also been dry, which has reflected well in the ground monitoring, with minimal movement detected at the site.

The Council is in regular contact with Welsh Water and their contractor to discuss their progress to date. Once they have installed the replacement water main they will need to chlorinate it and switch the supply over which will take at least 11 days. At present, Welsh Water are estimating the maximum length of time needed to complete the works is six weeks.

Every effort is being made to reopen the road as soon as possible, even if this means a partial reopening under traffic light control. The situation will be continually assessed to determine if this is safe and practical.

The Council is keen to stress that everyone concerned is working hard to get the road reopened as a matter of urgency.
