A group of primary school children from Aberbargoed are hosting a show for their local community, with the assistance of local police officers and the Arts Council of Wales.
Over the last few weeks a group of 15 pupils from Aberbargoed Primary School, between the ages of 9 and 11, have been taking part in the ‘Night Out’ young promoters’ scheme.
When they started, they were told that the Arts Council of Wales had booked a travelling theatre company to perform in their area. During weekly workshops they have been putting in place preparations for all other aspects of organising the show, with help from Special Constable Christine Smith and the Bargoed Neighbourhood Policing Team.
They have been learning how to run their own theatre, from marketing and selling tickets to getting sponsorship from local companies. They have even been on a trip to the Riverfront Theatre in Newport for a tour and to meet the management, seeing how the backstage, technical and box office areas work.
Special Constable Christine Smith, said: “During the scheme, we have worked alongside the young people each week, and hopefully provided them with an opportunity to get to know their local officers. All of the pupils have been really keen to get involved and help make this scheme a success for the local community.
“On the night of the show they will take charge, making sure that everything runs smoothly. They are all really excited and I am sure they will be supported by the local community on the night.”
The result of their efforts will be seen on Wednesday 23rd June, when Loon & Theatre mi mi will present ‘Philease P. Souper’ at Aberbargoed Primary School. They will take the audience on a trip around the world musically using mime, clown and physical theatre skills.
Doors open at 6pm, with the show starting at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. Tickets cost £3.50 each for adults and £2.50 for concessions.
