As part of the £7.7m Aberdare Town Centre Regeneration scheme preliminary investigation works are set to take place on Sunday 17th April around the Town Centre in readiness for the works to begin during the summer.
In order to carry out these necessary works the following roads will be closed on Sunday 17th April from 6am until 11.59pm.
- Canon Street
- Commercial Street
- Weatherall Street
Although it is intended to complete these works during this arranged closure, should further investigations be necessary, these may be undertaken on subsequent Sundays after the Bank Holidays.
Bus services will operate as normal during Sunday 17th April, however the bus stop located at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Canon Street will be temporarily relocated to Seymour Street at its junction with Weatherall Street (outside St Mary’s Day Centre).
Cllr Paul Cannon, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Safer Communities, said: “The securing of nearly £8m for Aberdare is a significant coup for the Council and the town centre.
“The investment will enable the delivery of far-reaching regeneration works to ensure Aberdare remains a safe, attractive and vibrant place in which to live, work and visit.
“The vital investigative work that is set to be carried out will help the team to ensure that works remain on track once they begin. The road closures are likely to cause residents and visitors some minor disruptions and the Council urges residents to bear with us, as this is for their long-term benefit.”
Further details on the works to be undertaken will be the subject of a public exhibition, the date of which will be announced in the next month.
