Abergavenny Police Officers take a hike for charity

Next Sunday (26th March) a team of officers from Abergavenny Neighbourhood Policing Team will join thousands of walkers to take on the South Wales Three Peaks Trial.

The team of four officers will tackle the ‘Gold Route’ of the trial. This is a circular walk of about 20 miles and 5000 metres of ascent, which crosses over the Blorenge, Sugar Loaf and Skirrid mountains.

The officers will also have help and support from their colleagues from the Neighbourhood Team who will be at the base stations with the mobile police station. The support team, along with members of the Richard Hunt Foundation will offer refreshments to walkers and their supporters and any donations received will be given to charity.

The team have chosen to divide their money raised between two charities. The first is the Richard Hunt Foundation which was set up to help Welsh service personnel and their families.

The second charity is the Longtown Mountain Rescue Team which has long established links with Gwent Police. The volunteer service is not only used for mountain rescues but assists with police searches for missing people and vulnerable adults and children.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Tony Patey who is taking part in the trek explained, “We wanted to join our communities in Abergavenny by supporting this local event. We’re hoping to raise money for these very worthwhile charities and we’d like to invite members of the public to come along and support all walkers on the day.”
