Clwyd West AM Darren Millar joined staff and volunteers at Abergele Tesco last week to support their efforts to collect food to help support people in need.
As part of its partnership with the Trussell Trust and FareShare, Tesco held its fourth National Food Collection on Friday and Darren was on hand to encourage volunteers who were accepting shoppers’ donations.
Darren said:
“I am very pleased to lend my support to this extremely worthy cause. Tesco shoppers were extremely generous and I would like to thank everyone who donated food items.
“The foodbank in Abergele does a fantastic job of supporting people who find themselves in a desperate situation and I want to pay tribute to the dedication of volunteers, many of whom are from local churches, for their efforts.
“At their last UK collection in December – thanks to the generosity of customers and staff, when coupled with Tesco’s 30 per cent top up donation – they were able to provide 4.3million meals for those in need. Since the first Food Collection in December 2012, 10.3 million meals have been donated to help Fareshare and the Trussell Trust help feed people in need across the UK.”
