Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s current exhibition

Gallery 1 Aberystwyth Arts Centre 12 June – 14 July 2010

This exhibition brings together works made by three former Artists in Residence from Aberystwyth Arts Centre’s Creative Units alongside that of the two current Artists in Residence.

The artists:
Ralph Juergen Colmar works in digital installation, film and photography. He shows here an animated version of Rutland Boughton’s opera ‘The Immortal Hour’, the first draft of which he made during his Aberystwyth residency.

Lucy Harvey
describes herself as a ‘conceptual metal smith’. During her residency, the maritime artefacts she saw in Ceredigion Museum’s collections and the found objects she came across on Aberystwyth’s beach inspired the pieces on show.

Katherine Sullivan is a sculptor whose work is influenced by her passion for the forms of architecture and of clothing. The pieces in this exhibition show how she combines decorative textiles with building materials.

Priya Chohan and Annabelle Shelton are currently in residence in Creative Unit Studios 1 & 2 .
Priya Chohan is interested in philosophies about mapping and time, in the ephemeral and in the traces of actions, exploring this through her use of material.

Annabelle Shelton scours urban landscapes for activity that shows evidence of human intervention. She photographs these events, sometimes noting minute details, and deciphers them into her own playful language, translating them into paint and line and creating seductive narrative paintings.

The UK Artists’ Residencies at Aberystwyth Arts Centre have been made possible thanks to support from the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation. 5 is an exhibition organised by Aberystwyth Arts Centre.
