Aberystwyth RNLI lifeboat was launched on Saturday 30 July 2011 following a report of a flare being sighted south of Aberystwyth.
Aberystwyth RNLI Atlantic 85 class inshore lifeboat Spirit of Friendship launched at 10.06pm following a sighting of a ‘red flare’ to the west of Blaenplwyf, which was reported to HM Coastguard by a member of the public.
A search of the area was conducted by volunteer RNLI crew members, however no vessels were sighted in the area, and the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station at 11.30pm.
