Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has called on a local council to review its speed limits on a busy road before a serious accident happens.
A stretch of road on Abergele Road, Old Colwyn is currently designated as a 40 miles per hour speed limit, but an increase in housing over the past few years and a number of accidents have prompted locals to campaign for a reduction to 30 mph.
Darren Millar AM met with local councillors and residents to discuss the issue.
Darren said:
“The speed of travel down this road is far too fast for the residential character and busy nature of the street. The Highways Department should review the speed limit with a view to reducing it to 30 mph to improve road safety in the area.
“This stretch of road is one of the main roads into Old Colwyn and many children use bus stops in the area to get to local schools.
“The current speed limit means this stretch of road is an accident waiting to happen – action must be taken now to make the area safe.”
