New affordable housing has arrived in Port Talbot thanks to Neath Port Talbot Council.
The authority has teamed up with Pennant Homes to help people own a home at the prestigious mews development at Hospital Road in Aberavon.
The mews is a highly attractive scheme in an excellent location but because the original developers went into administration, a number of houses were left unfinished.
Now, thanks to the £550,000 funding from the Welsh Assembly Government, Pennant Homes, who are part of Coastal Housing Group, were able to purchase the remaining homes and complete the site.
Nine new houses are available for people to own a home on a low cost home ownership basis.
A further four properties are available to rent, tenants for two of them will be nominated by the Council.
Another two homes will be offered at full market value.
The nine low cost home ownership properties are only available to people who live or work in Neath Port Talbot and are offered on a first come first served basis to people who meet the Council’s eligibility criteria.
With prices starting from £66,500 for a two bedroom apartment raising to £102,200 for a four bedroom property, this scheme offers a wonderful opportunity for people to improve their housing choices.
Pennant Homes will be opening a sales office on site from Thursday (18th November) and anyone interested can contact the council’s housing strategy team on 01639 763389 or e mail [email protected] or Pennant Homes on 01792 619300
Council Leader, Ali Thomas, said, “Housing strategy officers have been working tirelessly to make sure that this development is completed.
“I am delighted that the Council, together with its partners, has been able to deliver new affordable housing even in these difficult financial times.
“People who live in Neath Port Talbot or who have a connection to the county borough will have a chance to buy these attractive properties.
“I’m sure they will be very popular.”
David Fry, Managing Director of Pennant Homes, added, “Pennant Homes are pleased to be working in partnership with Neath Port Talbot Council on the completion of the development at The Mews.
“We are delighted to be able to offer first time buyers the opportunity of owning their own home which otherwise they would not be able to afford in this difficult financial climate and also providing more high quality homes for rent.
“We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with the Council to provide affordable high quality homes for the people of Neath Port Talbot in the future.”
