Bottles of vodka and crates of lager were some of the items seized from underage teenagers during a blitz on anti-social behaviour in Pontyclun.
Neighbourhood and response officers teamed up to tackle the issue of youth annoyance in the area which has been identified as a Pact priority by residents.
PC Mike Perry Neighbourhood Beat Manager for Talbot Green, Pontyclun, Llantrisant, is now urging parents to get on board and check where their children are at night. Some of the young people spoken to by police claimed they were going camping for the night.
“All the alcohol you can see in the photograph was seized in just one Friday night in Pontyclun from underage drinkers who we found out on the streets up until 2am.
“Some of the young peo ple admitted that the alcohol had actually been supplied by their parents.
“Apart from being underage, the consumption of alcohol is making these young people vulnerable to harm and also causing great distress to residents.
“For these reasons we need the help of parents to help us tackle this problem and we urge them to ask themselves where their children are in the evening? Who are they with? What are they doing? Are they part of the problem? ”
If young people are found with alcohol it will be confiscated and parents contacted. Those who are particularly young or intoxicated will be taken home.
Officers are also considering submitting Anti Social Behaviour Referral forms for parents whose children are persistently found to be causing problems.
Inspector Lee Porter added: “I would ask parents to consider how they would feel if there were a large group of drunken youths outside their home. ”
