Commenting on the joint follow-up report published by the Wales Audit Office and Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) into Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board’s governance arrangements, Aled Roberts, Welsh Lib Dem Assembly Member for North Wales said:
“This report has done little to lay to rest my fears about the major problems facing healthcare in North Wales.
“Whilst I appreciate that there have been a number of changes in senior personnel, which means the Board is still very much in transition, concerns still remain about the standard of healthcare being offered to patients.
“The fact is that the Welsh Labour Government has completely failed to show leadership in tackling the fundamental problems facing Wales’ NHS. People in North Wales are in desperate need of clarity about what the future shape of clinical services will look like across the region. Without this clarity, it is difficult for anyone to have full confidence in the Health Board.
“It’s a huge concern that the Health Board’s finances remain in such a mess. It would seem that little progress to address this situation has been made and already a significant deficit is forecast for the end of the current financial year.
