The Welsh Rugby Union has wished the record Wales cap holder Gareth Thomas well in his planned switch to rugby league next season with the Celtic Crusaders team.
WRU Group Chief Executive, Roger Lewis, said: “Gareth Thomas holds a special place in the history of Welsh rugby as the first international to win one hundred caps for his country and he takes this step forward into a new sport with all our best wishes.
“I want to thank Gareth for everything he has contributed to the union game over the past two decades through his talent and his dedication.
“He not only achieved the honour of 100 caps but captained Wales 21 times and also skippered the British and Irish Lions and continues to have the respect of Welsh rugby fans as a Cardiff Blues player.
“Gareth has achieved what many would term a full career to the union game but his incredible dedication to fitness and conditioning means we can all be assured he has plenty more to offer in the new sporting challenge he has set himself.”
