Labour AM for the Vale of Clwyd, Ann Jones has welcomed the recently announced £58 million Social Housing Grant investment in the refurbishment and building of affordable homes in Wales.
The investment is a welcome break to help those climb onto the property ladder or to aid those downsizing due to the UK Government’s welfare policies.
Ms Jones said: “The investment represents a commitment by this Welsh Labour Government to drive up standards of our social housing whilst keeping it at an affordable rate for those who need it most in Wales.
“The Grant demonstrates that it is a Labour Government in Wales that is best equipped to deal with those communities hit hard by the UK Tory-led welfare reforms, and to ensure that those hard done by those reforms aren’t left behind.
“Communities can now feel more confident in the provision of better quality, more affordable social housing with more support and advice on how to handle living independently. Furthermore, the Grant will create jobs in areas where new housing or renovations to social housing is needed”.
The Social Housing Grant is a defining piece of Assembly legislation as it ensures those at the bottom, financially in Wales, have the best possible chance to secure cheap, affordable and good quality accommodation.
The funding grant itself will be shared amongst communities who will identify and deliver the projects which are of maximum benefit to the communities that need them.
