Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies is pictured at a special event organised by Twf Penfro at Haverfordwest’s Boots store.
Twf aims to promote bilingualism by offering support and advice for parents who want to raise their child to speak Welsh.
The Two Languages From Day One Twf project is run by the Welsh Language Board and the event in Haverfordwest saw Welsh-English goody bags being given out to shoppers.
“We work with young parents and expectant mothers, giving them information about the advantages of bilingualism and raising their children in a bilingual environment,” said Meinir Jones from the Welsh Language Board.
Mr Davies, who was brought up bilingually and who is the shadow minister for the Welsh language, praised the scheme, saying: “For me Welsh was always spoken when I was growing up and having that early bilingual start has helped me tremendously in life.
“Learning Welsh as a child also helps you to learn additional languages later on. Twf is a great scheme and especially helpful in supporting families with only one Welsh-speaking parent.”
