Labour AM for the Vale of Clwyd, Ann Jones, has called on the Welsh Government and Arriva Trains Wales to work with fans organisations to ensure that train times coincide with the finish times of major sporting events to guarantee that fans from North Wales can attend games.
Speaking at First Minister’s Questions, Ms Jones raised that fans often find it very difficult to attend 6 Nations rugby internationals in Cardiff due to poorly timetabled trains and additional rolling stock not being allocated to the North-South rail links.
Ms Jones said: “Rugby and football fans from North Wales want to come to Cardiff to cheer on our national teams but often find it very difficult to make travel plans and usually have to stay overnight in Cardiff – making trips down to the capital even more expensive.
“Arriva get a significant public subsidy from the taxpayer and I want to see them do more to ensure that the people of North Wales get the service they deserve and have well-timetabled, comfortable services”.
