Montgomeryshire AM, Russell George, has called on the Business and Enterprise Minister to work with her cabinet colleagues, to ensure that it honours its funding commitment to implement additional services on the Cambrian Line.
Mr George questioned the Minister in the Senedd this week, arguing that the investment was vital to ensure there was both economic and tourist growth in Mid-Wales.
Commenting Russell said:
“The enhancement of the Cambrian Line is extremely important aspect in delivering economic growth in Mid-Wales.
“I asked the Minister if she would commit herself to work closely with the Local Government Minister, in order to prioritise implementing additional services on the Cambrian Line when he announces his review of the National Transport Plan in next few weeks.
“The work on enhancing the capacity of the line has already been done by Network Rail at a cost of £13m. It is vital that this existing spending is utilised to the benefit of the Mid Wales economy.
“It would be a real missed opportunity if the range of services could not be increased because the Government wanted to cut back on a small amount of investment.
“I am pleased that the Minister did give a commitment to discuss it with her ministerial colleagues.”
