In May 2007, when elected as the new Assembly Member for Wrexham, Lesley Griffiths made one pledge to herself – to visit every school in Wrexham constituency. Twenty seven months later, she accomplished her tour having visited all 32 nursery, primary, and secondary schools in her area.
During the AM’s marathon ‘chalkface’ tour, she has visited:
- 2 nursery schools
- 24 primary schools
- 6 secondary schools
Commenting on her visits, Lesley said:
“I made the pledge to myself as soon as I was elected back in 2007 that I would visit every single school in the Wrexham constituency. Just over two years later, I am pleased to say, I have completed that tour. In fact, I have visited some schools several times during the last two years.
“From my own experience, I can say without hesitation – we have some wonderful schools in Wrexham. They all provide an excellent level of education for our children delivered by teaching staff who are totally committed to their profession. In some instances, we have teaching staff who are truly inspirational in how they teach and enthuse pupils.
“From my perspective, this is far from the end of the story. My diary is already filling-up with invitations for re-visits, more meetings with school councils and calls to attend school assemblies. Like painting the Forth Bridge – now I have finished – I am about to start all over again!
“When asked what have I learnt from ‘chalkface’ tour – the answer is easy. We can all be justifiably proud of our schools in Wrexham.”
