National Assembly Member Mohammad Asghar was delighted to see Newport’s Transporter Bridge re-open on Friday afternoon.
Mr Asghar, who represents the South Wales East region, said: “It was a very special occasion and I was delighted to attend.
“It’s fantastic to see this iconic bridge open again after it closed for safety reasons. It really is brilliant for the people of Newport.
“The Transporter Bridge is a great example of engineering and is one of only two in working order across the whole UK”.
After the bridge was officially re-opened, members of the public were treated to performances from a number of musical acts; including Alex Warren and Terema Wainwright – the stars of YouTube sensation video spoof Newport State of Mind.
Mr Asghar added: “The video is highly imaginative and provides great publicity for Newport. Nearly two million hits in such a short period of time is a truly astonishing achievement and the crowd loved their performance on Friday”.
