Shadow Minister for Equality Mohammad Asghar paid tribute to the great display of diversity and unity as an estimated 40,000 people attended the 2010 Mardi Gras at Coopers Field in Cardiff.
Addressing the event from the main stage, Mr Asghar, who represents South Wales East, said: “This is the biggest event of its kind in Wales and it really is fantastic to see so many people enjoying the occasion regardless of their age, gender, colour or sexuality.
“Over the last 11 years, the festival has built up a great reputation – as a celebration of diversity and a means of raising awareness and promoting equality.
“This event has grown into one of the highlights of Cardiff’s social calendar – and I am delighted to welcome an estimated 40,000 people this year! The growth of this occasion over the years has been very impressive”.
He added: “The Welsh Conservatives are committed to equality and to tackling issues like homophobic bullying and discrimination on the basis of sexuality which, sadly, still exists in our society”.
