Montgomeryshire Assembly Member, Russell George, has said that the proposed changes to reduce the number of Oncological beds at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, potentially jeopardises the standard of treatment Welsh cancer patients will receive.
Commenting on the proposals Mr George said:
“I have real concerns about the possible repercussions this proposed cut in beds will have on cancer patients from Mid Wales.
“I have had calls from very worried constituents who travel to Shrewsbury on a daily basis for treatment, who have told me that beds are fully occupied now, so a loss of 8 beds is going to have a considerable impact on treatment capacity.
“I am meeting with the Chief Executive of the Trust along with Montgomeryshire MP Glyn Davies, to raise all these local concerns with him.”
