Montgomeryshire Assembly Member, Russell George, officially launched the film ‘I am breathing’ on behalf of the MND Association in Newtown.
The event took place at the Crescent Christian Centre and was attended by a host of local politicians and dignitaries. The film tells the remarkable true story of Neil Platt, a young father who found out he was dying from motor neurone disease just months after the birth of his son Oscar. Neil wanted to raise awareness of MND and this was the focus of his last few months.
Mr George also took the opportunity of signing the MND Association’s Five Point Charter, which aims to ensure all people with MND receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
Commenting after the film, Mr George said:
“This is an extremely powerful film about the impact of motor neurone disease, not just on the life of individual affected but also the impact the condition has on the wider family.
“I don’t think there was one person at the launch who wasn’t deeply moved by this film; it captured the heart and the mind and I would encourage people to see it.
“I would also appeal to people to read the MND Charter and if they feel they are able, to sign up to its key aims online at www.mndassociation.org.”
