Lesley Griffiths has called on Wrexham communities, organisations and businesses to get behind Armed Forces Day .
Events across Wales are taking place this week to show support for the Armed Forces community – which is to be celebrated in Wrexham as Veterans Day on Friday 24th.
Lesley Griffiths will be attending the Veterans Day event organised by Wrexham Member of Parliament, Ian Lucas alongside many individuals from both public and private life, personnel from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.
However, in a plea for the whole community to get behind events, AM Lesley said:
“I hope the whole community can come together to mark this day. Members of our armed forces make great sacrifices in the defence of the UK and on international peacekeeping operations, actions which deserve to be recognised.
“Each year I look forward to Veterans Day as an important opportunity to honour the work our Armed Forces –something everyone should get behind.
“The Welsh Government is seeking to formalise support arrangements for Welsh Armed Forces Day celebrations across Wales, a move I applaud as a mark of honour for these brave individuals.”
Other initiatives from the Welsh Government include a pledge to extend the ‘Homebuy scheme’ priority status of Veterans and Service personnel to widows and widowers of personnel killed in Service. Moves are also underway to assess any additional support needed by families of serving personnel, and concessionary travel is to be extended to all Veterans in Wales.
