Assembly Member for Wrexham Lesley Griffiths is backing a national supermarket’s healthy lifestyle campaign.
Last week (Wednesday 29 January) Sainsbury’s launched Active Kids 2014, an initiative aimed at inspiring children to become more involved with physical activity and encouraging them to live healthier lifestyles.
Thanks to the generous support of their customers and colleagues over the years, Sainsbury’s has donated over £350,000 worth of Active Kids equipment and experiences to organisations across Wrexham.
Sainsbury’s have run the campaign since 2005 and in that time have donated almost £3 million worth of Active Kids equipment to worthy causes throughout Wales.
Customers are given vouchers which can be donated to nurseries, schools, Scout and Guide groups and other youth sports groups.
This year’s campaign focuses more on cooking and on the importance of a balanced and nutritional diet. Active Kids vouchers will provide cooking products and equipment to help provide children with the materials and knowledge to learn the skills to lead healthier lives.
Customers can collect Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers until 20 March 2014.
AM Griffiths said:
“In recent years, the Active Kids campaign has made a significant contribution to the lives of many children across the region and I thank everyone at Sainsbury’s Wrexham and all their customers who have made a real difference.”
“I would encourage organisations in the area to register to receive vouchers, and for people to get collecting and help the scheme inspire even more children to lead healthier, more active lifestyles.”
