Assembly Member Ken Skates lent pupils a helping hand with a nature project during a visit to a village school.

Clwyd South Labour AM Mr Skates was invited to Ysgol Cynddelw by teacher Hannah Parkinson last week to take part in a programme run by Natural Resources Wales.

He said: “Ysgol Cynddelw is a lovely school and I was delighted to be asked along. It was fantastic to be part of such an interesting project which really inspired the children and made for a fun learning experience.

“We studied salmon in a tank specially fitted by Natural Resources Wales and looked at their eggs, which will hatch later this year and then be released into the River Ceiriog. It was a fascinating afternoon and I now know more about salmon than I thought was possible!”

Miss Parkinson said: “The children were thrilled to meet and talk with Ken and are really excited about the hatchlings. Ken will be back in the summer to watch us release them into the Ceiriog right outside the school.”

Mr Skates added: “I really enjoyed my visit to Ysgol Cynddelw. The school has a wonderful atmosphere and it was a pleasure meeting the staff and pupils. I’m already looking forward to returning.”
