Serious concerns have been raised by Montgomeryshire AM Russell George over the transfer of care services between providers for vulnerable people in Powys.
The contract for the provision of domiciliary services to vulnerable people with Powys County Council was won by Reach and Abacare who began taking over the services from existing contractors last week.
But Mr George said he has become “very concerned” about the transfer and demanded intervention to ensure the care of elderly and vulnerable people is ensured and prioritised as a matter of urgency.
“I am very concerned about the state of the service following reports of incidents during the transfer of services between the old and new contractors,” he said.
“The most important issue that needs to be addressed today is that the people who should be cared for are being cared for and that they are receiving the highest level of care.”
He added:
“I have spoken to cabinet member and senior director with responsibility for social services in Powys and sought assurances that any issues are being addressed immediately for the well-being of the people needing care.”
Mr George said he understood Powys County Council had involved the police in the matter following incidents between some of the old and new contractors.
“I am also discussing the matter with the Welsh Government and will be contacting the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales.”
Anyone with concerns about the care of a family member or friend should contact Powys County Council’s adult services team on 0845 6027050 or 01597 827633.
