AM Seeks Public Views on Welshpool Traffic Issues

Russell_GeorgeMontgomeryshire Assembly Member, Russell George, is undertaking his own public survey work, in a bid to capture the widest range of local views on what are the fundamental transport challenges in the Welshpool area.

He is encouraging people to complete a short transport survey in which he is asking a range of questions including residents views on the current one-way system in the town, as well as seeking views on an hourly train service on the Cambrian line.

Commenting, Mr George said:

“Seeking public opinion on key issues like transport, which affects people on a daily basis, is a key aspect of my role as the local AM.

“I know from the concerns that have been raised with me by businesses and by residents that there are varying views on the current one-way system in the town. Powys Council said months ago that it would work with the Welsh Government to implement improvement measures but very little has happened. Local people are fed-up of waiting and want action.

“I am a big believer that local people know what is best for their communities that’s why I feel those commuting and using local transport services probably already have the solutions to many of town’s transport problems, they just need a way of getting those views heard.

“I am encouraging people to fill in a short survey that can be completed online.

“The data I collect will provide me with evidence which I can use to highlight these issues with Powys County Council and Welsh Ministers.”
