AM Seeks Views on Short Breaks Services

Nick_RamsayMonmouth Assembly Member Nick Ramsay is inviting constituents to contact him with their views on the provision of the short breaks services for the carers of disabled children, to help the Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Keith Towler, compile a report.

The Children’s Commissioner will be examining in detail the implications of new regulations on Local Authorities’ Short Breaks Services Statements, published in September 2012, and the impact they are having on the opportunities for disabled children and young people to enjoy their rights to play, leisure and recreation.

Speaking on Wednesday, Mr Ramsay said:

“I would like to hear from anyone who has experience of the short breaks services, and would like to stress that the identities of all those who share their views will remain anonymous.

”The Commissioner is anxious to gather as much anecdotal evidence as possible from children, young people and their parents/carers, in order to gain a greater insight into the short breaks provision.

“In particular, he will be looking at the range of services provided and the degree to which disabled children and their carers feel their needs are met.

“I would ask any constituents who can help with this very important survey to contact me as soon as possible.”
