AM to Put his Best Foot Forward Along the Montgomery Canal to Support Wales Tourism Week

Russell_GeorgeTourism operators in Montgomeryshire have an opportunity to demonstrate just how important the sector is to the local economy with Wales Tourism Week later this month.

Montgomeryshire AM, Russell George, will be backing the week-long campaign (22nd February to 2nd March) highlighting how vital tourism is to the area, supporting jobs, businesses and communities.

“We have a strong and thriving tourism sector in Montgomeryshire based very much around the spectacular countryside, landscape and environment that we’re lucky to have here,” said Mr George.

“Wales Tourism Week is a great way to show all this off, from the natural beauty to the businesses providing visitor attractions, accommodation and more. Let’s tell the world what a great offer we have here for day and staying visitors.”

The tourism sector is worth millions to the Montgomeryshire economy each year. In addition to providing economic benefits and direct employment, it also supports other businesses, suppliers and communities.

Mr George and Montgomeryshire MP, Glyn Davies, will combine celebrating Wales Tourism Week and St David’s Day with a walk along part of the scenic Montgomery Canal, near Newtown.

They will join members of the Friends of the Montgomery Canal who have organised a walk to Freestone Lock and back via Penarth Nature Reserve on Saturday, 1st March at 10.30am.

The canal will also be used for the annual Montgomery Canal Triathlon on Saturday, 10th May.
