AM Ken Skates says a college’s ‘fantastic’ new site will become an invaluable resource for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities in North Wales.
Shropshire-based Derwen College will open its new Coleg Derwen @ Ashdale House facility in Higher Penley, which will provide vocational learning opportunities in an outdoor environment for students aged 16-25 with challenging needs, in September.
Mr Skates said:
“I was delighted to visit the new premises for Derwen College, which will provide a fantastic environment for learners. The Vocational Pathway course will offer young people a wonderful chance to develop and improve their experience and confidence by working in groups.
“The course involves learning a range of work-based activities in horticulture and conservation as well as art and craft, English, maths and IT, and will also enhance students’ personal, social and independence skills.”
He added:
“Ashdale House, which is being converted from a residential property, will give students a brilliant opportunity to learn in a safe and beautiful setting. I am looking forward to the formal opening in the near future.”
