Mohammad Asghar, National Assembly Member for South Wales East, has welcomed CrossCounty’s decision to extend its provision of rail services at Chepstow.
The number of services stopping at Chepstow station on Mondays to Saturdays will increase from May 24th on a 12-month trial period.
A revised timetable of the franchise’s services shows that the number of CrossCountry services going northbound to Birmingham New Street from Chepstow will increase from two to nine, whilst the number of CrossCountry services going southbound from Chepstow to Cardiff Central will increase from three to ten.
Mr Asghar said: “I am pleased that CrossCountry has listened to calls to extend the services offered.
“The extended service will ensure that, from May, there are more opportunities for passengers to travel southbound to the cities of Newport and Cardiff and northbound to locations such as Gloucester and Birmingham.
“Offering these additional services has the potential to be beneficial to the local economy and help the environment”.
The Shadow Minister for Heritage & Equality added: “Many of my constituents have campaigned hard to see an increase in services at Chepstow.
“This development will provide people with hugely important opportunities to make more frequent journeys for business and pleasure. I hope the 12-month trial is a successful one”.
