Plaid AM Chris Franks has welcomed the latest transport grant to improve the road network and safety of our communities.
Deputy Minister and Minister for Transport Ieuan Wyn Jones announced nearly £55.5 million of transport grant funding to improve infrastructure in Wales.
The Plaid Cymru party leader said: “The settlement I am announcing today will enable local authorities to progress and substantially complete a wide range of projects. It will also help take forward our “One Wales” commitments in terms of sustainable transport.”
In Rhondda Cynon Taf, the Church Village bypass will receive £24,533,000. Among the areas to benefit from the Safer Routes in Communities scheme will be Aberaman and Ferndale and they will share £500,000.
Mr Franks said: “The millions of pounds made available to improve the highways and byways of Wales should be welcomed.
“In particular the money for the Church Village bypass will allow the scheme to be completed on time by the end of the year. This bypass, which diverts traffic away from the current A4113 from Cross Inn to Tonteg, will hopefully act as a catalyst for the local economy which has been hindered to some extent by a road network bursting to capacity.
“I visited the bypass last year with Transport Minister and Plaid Cymru leader, Ieuan Wyn Jones, to check on the scheme’s progress and I’m pleased to see that it is coming to fruition.”
