Labour AM Jeff Cuthbert has welcomed the news that Nelson Wern Park has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag award in the 2010 list of winners.
The Green Flag is awarded for the range of good work being done to restore and maintain green sites in Wales, which demonstrate benefits for community life, people’s health and the local economy.
Nelson Wern Park was one of three country parks across Wales to be awarded the Green Flag. The Park combines sports fields and play areas with extensive woodlands and wetlands, and is also a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC).
Jeff Cuthbert AM said, “I am absolutely delighted that Nelson Wern Park has been awarded such a prestigious award as the Green Flag.
“It is vital that green spaces are preserved, especially where they serve as recreational areas for local people and as a haven for local wildlife. They improve the sense of local well-being and can act as the lungs of more built-up places.”
