Caerphilly Labour AM Jeff Cuthbert has welcomed the decision by Shaw Healthcare not to sell by auction any of its houses in Bedwas and Trethomas.
This week, Mr Cuthbert was informed that Shaw Healthcare had decided ‘because of local pressure’ not to sell through auction any of their properties in Bedwas and Trethomas. They would, however, consider selling properties to a Registered Social Landlord or to individual tenancy holders.
Jeff Cuthbert AM said,
‘This is a great success for local tenants who made a stand. Many of them have been in contact with me in recent weeks and I know how concerned they were at the situation.
‘Tenants in Bedwas and Trethomas were prepared to stand-up and be counted, and have achieved a significant change of position by Shaw Healthcare.
‘I have arranged a meeting with the Welsh Government’s Deputy Housing Minister for next month. Local representatives have asked that I go ahead with this so that we try and ensure that something like this doesn’t happen again. I will be working closely with them and our local MP Wayne David.
‘Without the actions of local tenants, however, none of this would have been possible.’
