Plaid Cymru’s Leanne Wood has welcomed the launch of Wales’ premier festival for showcasing new music.
SWN Festival is to return to Cardiff for the fourth year running and promises to be bigger and better than ever before. During a launch announcement at the Pierhead building in Cardiff Bay, the first 27 acts for the festival were revealed.
Former Housemartins and Beautiful South frontman, Paul Heaton, will be playing along with the reformed cult post punk group, Swans. More than 100 acts will be performing over three days of music at the end of October.
Leanne Wood, AM for the South Wales Central region which encompasses the Welsh capital, said: “I am pleased the SWN festival will be returning to Cardiff again. It has been a catalyst for new music in South Wales and beyond since its inception.
“Apart from ensuring Cardiff’s reputation as a musical city remains strong, it also makes a significant contribution to the local economy with thousands of concert-goers flocking to the city over the course of three days.”
She added: “It is also great to hear that the festival has been successful in recent bids for funding which will hopefully allow it to go from strength-to-strength.”
