AM wins award at glittering ceremony

Welsh Conservative AM Mohammad Asghar has been awarded the prestigious ‘Glory of India Award’ at an awards ceremony in London.

The award came from the India International Friendship Society, a body which seeks to strengthen relations between India and people of Indian origin around the world.

Mohammad, who has represented South Wales East since May 2007, was awarded the prize for being “proactive and instrumental in strengthening Indo-British ties.”  Previous winners of the Glory of India Award include well-known figures from entertainment, public service and others who have worked to build bridges between India and the rest of the world, including most notably, Mother Teresa.

Speaking after receiving the award, Mohammad said, “I am honoured and deeply humbled to receive this award.

“I am proud of the role I have played in advocating stronger relations between India and Wales.  We have many things in common, not least the sharing of values of respect and religious tolerance.

“I am grateful to the India International Friendship Society for awarding me this honour and for praising the work I have undertaken on behalf of the communities of South East Wales.”
